NWST 1 report.....
North Wales Singles Tour 1- report

The first event of the season got underway at Rileys Pool club Chester on the weekend, and as usual there were plenty of surprise results. The new format of re-draws every round went down well with all entrants and only added to what was a fantastic day of pool.

Congratulations to Andrew Hughes (Newtown) AKA (Drew) who beat Adrian Naggington (Oswestry) 8 – 7 in the final. Andrew came through the event destroying everyone in his path with a devastating performance of potting of which everyone could only applaud. On his way to winning the first ever NWST he beat Mark Cook (Chester) 6 – 0, Carl Owen (Bangor) 6 – 3, Danny Garston (Wrexham) 6 – 3, Dan Fletcher (Caernarfon) 6 – 0, Wayne Smith (Newtown) 7 – 1 and Adrian Naggington (Oswestry) in the final 8 – 7.

This was the first event of the NWST and with a full house of 64 players attending and a reserve list of players wanting to enter, it really does look to be a great season for everyone in Mid and North Wales.

Just to remind players that the top four players in the rankings will qualify for the PFW Welsh squad for 2013. The rankings will follow shortly.

Here are the results from the last 16:

Last 16

Dan Fletcher 6 v 4 Myles Deluce
Wayne Smith 6 v 2 Arwel Jones
Paul Hawkins 2 v 6 Joe Stuart
Paul Allen 3 v 6 Lee Hughes
Colin Healy 6 v 2 Ows Owen
Adrian Naggington 6 v 5 Joe Dewhurst

Quarter Finals

Lee Hughes 4 v 6 Wayne Smith
Chris Rowlands 6 v 5 Joe Stuart
Adrian Naggington 6 v 4 Colin Healy

Plate Event

As usual we also run a plate event for all 32 players who lost in the first round. All money in was paid out in prize fund.

Evan Williams (Bangor) beat Jamie Baines (Oswestry) in the plate event final 3 - 1.

I would like to thank Jason and the staff at Rileys Pool Club Chester for their support during the day, and look forward to our return once again at event 2 on Sunday 20th May 2012. A big thanks to every player that supported the tour in Chester and details for the next event will be out soon.

Special thanks must go to Mark Macdougall (Wrexham), Carl Owen (Bangor) and Owen Taylor (Anglesey) for supporting the event with so many players from their respective areas, keep up the good work guy’s, well done.

Heres the news from the PFW prior to the WEPF World Campionships...
All PFW teams for the World championships 2012 have now been selected.

Blackpool's Imperial Hotel is the destination courtesy of the WEPF and the EPA for hosting this year's event.
The Teams have all but packed their bags and ready for the off, this year we have representations in the Mens, Ladies, juniors, Wheelchair and the Over 50's., plus of course a great showing in all the singles categories.

This year there are 14 Nations taking part, so the event promises to be the biggest one yet.
Team Wales have a huge wealth of experience in this event and despite the Men's team not making the cut last year, this year is looking good. As No 3 Seeds will be a good bet this time around.

A couple of new additions to the Mens "A" team in Paul Marubbi and Kyle Edwards following their excellent performance at the Europeans in Dublin, they have been rewarded with a spot at the Worlds. The men also welcome Jon Bushnell into the team after finishing number one on the PFW tour from 2011. Wayne will be looking to rally the troops for a good old go this time round along with me doing some donkey work.
